I’d be lying if I said I didn’t pay much attention to US politics. My nerves are on edge waiting for this day to be over – this week, this year! Not going to give you much of a preamble today, just hoping you have these ingredients in your pantry. This is a must try and so delicious, hard to believe it’s good for you as well! Tons of benefits with turmeric – google it! If you have a machine that makes latte’s use it, just combine the milk/liquid with the turmeric mixture and steam away! This recipe makes about 3/4 cup of deliciousness or about a week’s worth of drinks. Make sure you clean the nozzle before you settle in with your drink. If you don’t have a latte/foam/whisk thing – then use the stove top! Stay safe, wash your hands, wear a mask and socialize according to guidelines. We will get through this just fine! As always – enjoy!
Ingredients
20 whole almonds, preferably with the skin on
15 whole cloves
1 stick cinnamon
1/2 tsp whole black peppercorns
1 1/2 tbsp. ground turmeric
250ml 1%, 2% milk or Almond/Nut milk
pinch of cinnamon
Directions
In a dry non-stick pan, toast the almonds until the skins take on some color – remove and set aside
To the same pan, add the cloves, cinnamon and peppercorns – toast until fragrant, remove and add to the almonds
Add the turmeric powder to this mix – set aside to cool
When the mixture is cool, empty the contents into a coffee grinder/spice mill/mortar and pestle – and pulverize to a powder – set aside (reserve extra in an airtight jar in your pantry)
Add the milk/nut milk to a small pot and 1 tbsp. of the ground turmeric mixture – bring to a boil – whisking gently to mix
When it boils, turn it off and let it sit for 1 minute
Pour the contents into a cup, top with a pinch of ground cinnamon
Sit back and relax (this will be great to do this evening and really not too bad to do every day!)
Substitutions and/or Changes: You can use cashews if you don’t have almonds; you can also use ground/sliced/slivered almonds if you don’t have whole, just make sure you toast them a bit; you can use some honey or sugar to sweeten if you feel it needs it; you can raise or lower the amount of kick in the latte by reducing the amount of peppercorns or use the multicolor peppercorns – they tend to be less potent; if you have candied ginger, dice or julienne it and add it to the cup – becomes a delicious treat at the end of the latte.
