I’ve been collecting recipes for many years now. Here are a few of the ones that caught my eye. Although you may find it in one category, it could easily fit into another i.e. an appetizer could also be found in a main etc. Some have been tried, my comments usually show up in italics if I have made them. I’ve given credit to Chef’s/authors/publishers whose names I wrote down when recording the recipes, but go figure – in at the tail end of the boomer generation and blogs didn’t exist when I started collecting them and I never thought of a website either. If I’ve violated any copyrights – just let me know and I’ll fix it. If you try a recipe and have comments, please let me know, I’ll respond. As always – enjoy! Thanks – Chris (cater@foodinspires.com)

Hamantaschen for Purim!

Happy Purim! In our family we have many different cultures, mostly as our extended families have married into other cultures. So this is for my Jewish friends and relatives.  I understand that Hamantaschen is typically served for Purim (honestly it's so tasty, I'd sneak a batch in whenever no one was looking). So I made some today, [...]

A Bloody Good Caesar… Salad!

What a refreshing thing a salad is!  It becomes even tastier when you can add a few simple ingredients that taste good (are good for you) and easy to do. This is called a Bloody good Caesar because of the addition of blood orange segments (I know, they look orange - sadly I cannot make segments [...]

Curried Cauliflower and Edamame!

This is a twist on the classic Aloo Gobi dish.  I was going to call it Cauliflower and Edamame - Gobi Style, but that would mean "Cauliflower" style, and really, what does that mean?!  So, Curried Cauliflower and Edamame it is.  I love this dish even though it has no meat in it.  I love published [...]

Braised Lamb Shanks with Celeriac Puree

I have a personal Chef assignment this weekend. I really enjoy these assignments/gigs. It gives me a chance to once again go gourmet and do some really neat things with some really neat ingredients. The entrée of choice for the dinner is Lamb Shanks. So I bought some to experiment and try different flavors profiles. [...]

Okay here we are. The ladies bought home the gold - thank you very much! Now it's the guys turn. To get ready for the big game tomorrow, I made some carrot cake mini cupcakes. So easy, so tasty! I liked both the recipe and the cream cheese frosting recipe. I have a go to [...]

Part 1 – The Baking Pantry cont’d – Tools and Equipment

This is the second half of Part 1 - The Baking Pantry.  This article will speak specifically to tools and equipment I have in my Baking Pantry. Again, working in someone else's kitchen you see the tools they use and can make notes to add items to your collection or - if they aren't foodies, add [...]

What’s in your Pantry? Part 1 – The Baking Pantry – Supplies

I often get asked what I keep in my pantry.  My answer is usually explained in 3 parts just as  my pantry items are - Freezer, Cooking and Baking pantries.  When I visit family and friends, I'll often take over - I mean, ask if they need help in the kitchen, and if I'm lucky enough that [...]

Vegetarian Sandwich and a Margarita!

We had these on the weekend! We weren't going away and it is so cold, we just needed to feel like we were in the tropics. Inspired by my son (who was home for the Family Day weekend) and daughter who wanted only veggies for diner. My son paid some of his way through University [...]

Valentine’s Day Chocolate Cake

Nope, she’s definitely not going to like this one. My wife is a very private person. So, open displays of affection – such as my dedicating this simple chocolate cake to her, are not her style (see picture below). Now having come from a family of huggers that openly display affection through hugs – it’s [...]

Lasagna Rolls

We had this for dinner on Saturday night. Comforting food for a cold winter's day! It's a twist on an old classic.  This makes for a nice presentation and a delicious main.  You will soon read  my Sopressata blog where I spent a day making Sopressata and Italian sausage from scratch with a wonderful fellow [...]
